The Southside Massive Dragonboat Society is a Hong Kong based amateur dragonboat club famed for its competitive spirit, will to win, goodwill, humour – and the best looking drummer girls! The Society runs men’s, women’s and mixed race crews under the Southside Massive Urban Gorrilaz name and races in competitions on home territory in Hong Kong and further afield in Asia. The Society has over 40 active racing members hailing from Australia, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, UK and USA. The teams are amongst the top expat crews in Hong Kong and have won a series of titles over their history on the water. The Southside Massive’s home ground is Stanley Main Beach where training takes place from January to July. Whilst committed to success on the water, the year-round social calendar is an important part of the life of the team. Post-training socials, team parties, golf days and inter-team events make up a hectic social diary that the team is renowned for. In addition to its racing record, the Society is equally proud of its fund raising efforts for local charities such as the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children.
